Engels-Haus finally reopens!

One of Wuppertals’ most famous residents would have celebrated his 200th birthday last year: Friedrich Engels was born in Barmen in 1820. To honor him, festivities for the “Engels-Jahr” took place throughout Wuppertal last year, which unfortunately were interrupted due to corona and are now being resumed. A highlight of these celebrations will take place on September 11, 2021 at 10:00 a.m.: the reopening of the Engels-House with a permanent exhibition on the life and work of Friedrich Engels.

North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister for Culture and Science, Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen, will be present to properly open the renovated Engels-House. In order to build tension on the new Engels-House, the reopening will be combined with the art project INSIDE OUT ENGELS. The day before, the facade of the Engels-House is covered with pictures of various Wuppertal residents who want to congratulate Engels on his 200th birthday. Just in time for the opening, the banner will fall and the new Engels-House will open.

On the opening weekend, the people of Wuppertal are granted free entry. Bookings for fixed time slots are a requirement for the visit, tickets for this can be booked online beginning on September 4, 2021.

To celebrate the anniversary, the special model “200 years of Friedrich Engels” of the suspension railway was released last year. It is still available in the Mobicenters and in the online shop.
