Wuppertaler Stadtwerke (WSW) has successfully completed the comprehensive renewal of the elevator systems at the Oberbarmen, Alter Markt and Hauptbahnhof suspension railway stations. This modernization effort was completed on 30.08.2023, when the last of the new elevators at Alter Markt station was put back into service.
The original elevators had already seen over two decades of faithful service and had reached the end of their service life. They tended to become increasingly prone to breakdowns, which affected the reliability of the suspension railway network. To solve this problem and ensure that passengers could enjoy trouble-free and barrier-free access to the stations, the comprehensive renewal began in November 2022.
