The Schwebodrom has opened!

After almost three years of planning, the gates to the new Schwebodrom opened on October 21, 2023. The unique suspension railroad experience invites visitors to immerse themselves in the fascinating history of the suspension railroad with all their senses at three stations. The Schwebodrom is the result of a successful collaboration between the Immobilien-Standort-Gemeinschaft (ISG) Barmen-Werth and Wuppertal Marketing GmbH (WMG).

Station 1: Projection world

In the 19th century, growing cities experienced a mobility transformation. The sound, light and colors convey the mobility of this era in a sensual way. Gregor Eisenmann, a light artist, creates a fascinating space as an art object with colorful illuminations and constantly changing shapes.

Station 2: Exhibition

From its beginnings to the present day, exhibits tell of the unique innovative power of the suspension railroad. They make its history understandable and tangible, from small secrets such as the connection between Eugen Langen and the invention of sugar cubes to major findings about flying rivets and exciting facts about the legendary Tuffi jump.

Station 3: VR tour

A ride through the Wuppertal of 1929 in the original carriage 11! Climb aboard a suspension railway carriage from 1900, put on your goggles and the journey begins. Float 13.3 kilometers past smoking chimneys, imposing buildings, historic vehicles and lively weekly markets. Experience the incomparable charm of the 1920s.
