Suspension railway renewal programme

Work at the Wupperfeld station

The state of North Rhine-Westphalia supports renovations to create an attractive and networked local public transport system that meets mobility needs and contributes to reducing emissions. The WSW has therefore also submitted the necessary applications for funding for the construction measures.

After many years of upgrading the suspension railway, parts of the infrastructure are now getting on in years. Components such as floor coverings, passenger information systems and lifts urgently need to be replaced. The aim of the refurbishment is to bring the platforms up to a modern standard and thus increase safety and comfort for passengers.

As part of the project, the floor coverings on the distribution level will be replaced and preparatory work will be carried out to replace the tactile guidance systems. Tactile guidance systems indicate danger points such as platform edges and thus provide orientation aids for blind or visually impaired people.

Work will begin at the Wupperfeld suspension railway station. Restrictions are to be expected here from 16 September 2024. The exact schedule and detailed information on the renewal programme can be found here.
