125 years of the Wuppertal Suspension Railway

Anniversary immortalized on a stamp

Special stamp worth 95 cents now available

The Wuppertal suspension railway has been an integral part of the cityscape for 125 years – and this anniversary is now also being honored in philatelic form. To mark this milestone birthday, a new special stamp has been issued featuring one of Wuppertal's most famous landmarks.

Two eras on one stamp

The motif on the stamp combines the past and present of the suspension railway. It depicts the historic imperial carriage from 1901 and a modern suspension railway from 2025. Both vehicles can be seen at the Robert-Daum-Platz station. The stamp has a value of 95 cents and can be used for postcards and standard letters.

Part of the “Zeitreise Deutschland” series

The anniversary stamp was issued by the Federal Ministry of Finance as part of the “Zeitreise Deutschland” stamp series. The total print run is 2.3 million copies, which are available now.

Sales and collector's offers

The special stamp can be purchased both online and at selected post offices that sell special stamps. There is also a first-day postmark for collectors. A special post office was set up at Wuppertal Touristik on the day of issue. This is already the third stamp dedicated to the suspension railway – following earlier issues 50 and 25 years ago, which were still in DM.
